Baked Chicken Breast: The Ultimate Health Food

February 8th, 2010 by DietGal | Filed under Food & Recipes.

There aren’t too many win-win foods easily available on the market.  When I say win-win, I’m referring to a meal that is both good for you and tastes fantastic.  Chicken is one of the bar none healthiest foods around, and baking chicken breast is one of the healthiest, best tasting ways to make it.  It gives you all of the advantages of an incredible protein source, while presenting it in a generally low fat package.

Now, if you’ve ever camped out and watched the Food Network for any extended period of time, you know that there are a million different chicken dishes; everything from Mexican to Italian to Buffalo (both in region and style), and though it’s great to get exposure to new ideas, information overload can sometimes lead to sheer confusion.  What you need is something simple to get you started.  The following recipe will give you a foundation that holds up not only as a fantastic entree by itself, but can provide a base to prepare an infinite number of other chicken featured meals.

First, set your oven for 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  While its heating up, lay your desired number of chicken breasts on a baking stone and coat them in olive oil, salt and pepper.  Now throw them in the oven, and let them bake for ~37 minutes.  That is all there is to it.  It sounds simple and it looks simple, but it makes an incredibly tender, delicious piece of meat that is great alone, but can be used in nearly any other recipe calling for chicken breast.

Personally, I’ve been trying to eat healthier, but it’s a huge pain to pack my lunch for work every day.  Lately, I’ve gotten wise, and have started cooking a few chicken breasts in the beginning of the week, putting them in the fridge, and mixing them with whatever healthy side dish I feel like eating that day.  What more can you ask than a full meal that’s satisfying, cheap, easy, and great for you?  Go ahead and give the ultimate baked chicken breast recipe a try.
