The Medifast meal plan is a diet program in which you choose from over 70 different Medifast meal choices. The Medifast diet comprises of 5 meals that you choose from the 70 options and one meal you choose for yourself, but it must be “lean and green“.
The diet plan has a variety of foods to choose from which include shakes, food bars, brownies, pudding, oatmeal, soups, drinks, scrambled eggs, pretzels, cheese puffs and it also includes vegetarian and diabetic options. If you are curious about how Medifast meals taste, this round-up of their different options should give you a good idea. Obviously taste differs from one person to the next, so I’ll give you my opinions mixed it with a bit of the general consensus. Hopefully that will give you a good idea of what to expect.
Medifast Shakes
The shakes are a major part of the meal program so it seems fit to start with them. The main ingredient is soy protein isolate. I think most of the shakes taste great, especially the orange and the chocolate. I’m not a fan of the banana or strawberry. There are some users who complain that the soy ingredient leaves an unpleasant soy aftertaste in the mouth, but the only time I notice any aftertaste is when I’m drinking the chocolate and it doesn’t bother me any.
The shakes are prepared by adding them with water, not milk. This can make the shake taste watery at times, but this is easily solved by blending them with ice to get a nice frothy frozen drink. Overall the general consensus is that the shakes are great, which is a good thing since they are the cornerstone of the product line.
Medifast Bars and Brownies
The food bars come in a variety of flavors which include peanut butter crunch, chocolate mint crunch, oatmeal raisin crunch, chocolate crunch and caramel crunch. I love the chocolate mint and the oatmeal raisin. The general consensus is that these replacement food bars are better than most other diet food bars and I would agree. Try freezing them for some extra tasty goodness.
The brownies are a recently added addition to the Medifast food line. Most users applauded this new addition because the brownies are made out of real chocolate. The taste is generally considered to be good to great. I have not tried them yet myself, but will in my next order.
Medifast Pudding, Oatmeal and Soups
The puddings are generally considered to be one of the worst items on the meal plan. They are described as rich and creamy. But in reality they lump. I don’t like any of them and never order them. Some dieters insist that it is easy to mix the puddings, but I found that they never mixed well enough even with a food processer and I hate that grainy taste of the powder.
The oatmeal packets are no different in taste to any oatmeal packets that you would you would buy in a store. The flavors are apple, cinnamon, peach, blueberry, maple & brown sugar. So if you are fond of regular oatmeal, then you will enjoy these. I’ve always been a Cream of Wheat fan rather than an oatmeal lover, but they sure make a nice change for breakfast.
The soups offered are Maryland crab flavored, chicken flavored noodle, chicken & wild rice, a variety of creamy soups and beef vegetable stew. I find the soups are average at best. To me they are too bland and a little salt and seasonings will go a long way, but with so many other products to choose from I usually don’t bother ordering them.
Other Medifast Products
The other drinks offered are fruit drinks, iced tea, hot cocoa, cappuccino and chai latte. Tops on this list for me is the hot cocoa which is delicious. If you like coffee and chai latte, you will probably like those as well, but I never drink coffee so don’t touch the cappuccino. I ordered some of the fruit and ice tea drinks once. They aren’t for me. I will stick to the shakes and the hot cocoa. Incidently, you can drink the hot cocoa cold. Just mix it in a blender with ice. If has no soy protein in it, so if you find that the Medifast shakes have a soy aftertaste you don’t like, this would be a great alternative.
The scrambled eggs, cheese puffs and pretzels are exactly as they sound. So if you enjoy any of these already then choosing these is a good choice because they generally taste the exact same as their supermarket counterparts. In fact, I’m amazed at how good the eggs taste as they are powdered. But once you cook them up, I can’t tell the difference between them and regular eggs. I love eggs too, so I eat these almost avery day.
Final Medifast Review
In conclusion Medifast meals are considered to be one of the tastier and healthier plans on the market today. I like most of their foods and there are certainly enough alternatives for the stuff I don’t care for that I just avoid ordering anything that I don’t absolutely enjoy.
If you want to try out the product line, my best suggestion is that you go ahead and just try their variety packs for the first month, so you can get the big discount, but then after that order a la cart. You can also order some samples so you can try out different Medifast products without committing to an entire week’s worth of anything you aren’t sure about.
