The standard American diet is packed with processed junk foods that contain detrimental hydrogenated oils, refined sugars and refined grains as well as loads of chemicals and preservatives. These foods are devoid of nutrition and over time can lead to obesity, cardiac issues and some believe, cancers. It is vital to good health to provide your body with the proper nutrition.

Foods like fresh, organic produce, whole grains, nuts and wild caught, deep water fish rich in heart healthy omega 3 fatty acids will ensure you are consuming the nutrients your body needs to maintain optimal health. It is important to remember that all calories are not created equally. If you consume calories that do not provide you with the nutrition you need, you will not only gain weight, but you will be playing with your health.

When you consume large amounts of processed foods, your body starts to have false cravings because it is trying to make up for missing nutrients. Cravings for sugars and refined carbohydrates lead to weight gain and health issues such as high cholesterol. Consuming foods that do provide the proper nutrients will put an end to the cravings. When your body is fed properly, it does not crave for nutrients it is missing.

By eliminating the bad foods and replacing them with better options, you will drop weight and start to regain your health.

It is vitally important to add an exercise regime to your daily program. Try to incorporate a brisk walk into your routine at least 4-5 times each week. Thirty minutes will do wonders for your physical and mental health. For strength and resistance training, add some light weights. Yoga is great for flexibility training and relaxation.
