As summer approaches one of the goals of many people is to put on a bit of muscle, get toned and lose some fat. it is no surprise, as many people would like to look good at the beach and not feel embarrassed at taking their top off. What a lot of people want to know is how to get ripped abs as this gives people who have them a sexy, healthy look. For many the goal seems quite unattainable but the principles are really quite simple. It is the putting them into practice regularly that is the difficult part. If you are motivated, then read on.
First of all, you need to stimulate the abdominal muscles into growing. The most obvious way is to start performing sit ups. It is a common myth that doing hundreds of sit ups will get you a rippling six pack. The problem is, that yes, it will build up the abdominal muscles to a certain extent but they will still be hidden by a layer of fat, but we will come to that later. Doing conventional sit ups and sit ups whereby you move one elbow in the direction of the opposite knee will stimulate the layers of abdominal muscles into action. But that’s not all!
What most people are surprised to learn is that actually exercising the big muscles in the body, the quadriceps, which are the large muscles on the front of the thighs and the chest muscles can actually help with developing the abdominal muscles and more crucially reducing that stubborn fat layer which hides them. An exercise such as squats which works the large legs muscles works in a number of ways. Firstly, it actually works the abdominal muscles as these are your core muscles which provides stability to the body when you exercise.
Secondly, these exercise put a large amount of stress on the body. If you’ve ever tried performing any squats, you know what I mean. Your legs turn to jelly, you feel out of breath, your heart races and it takes all your energy just to remain standing afterwards. What this stress does is stimulate the production of your own body’s natural growth hormones which in turn stimulates muscle growth. Thirdly, these big muscles are power houses which produce a lot of heat and burn lots of calories. The result being that they help with fat loss which will help remove that stubborn layer hiding those sexy abs which are starting to develop.
The last aspect to look at is diet and reducing calorie intake. If you are doing the above exercises then you will not need to reduce your calorie intake by a large amount as you will be burning a lot of them up. That is, of course, unless you eat a lot of fatty fast foods regularly. Increasing the proportion of protein in the diet can help with muscle growth and also takes more calories to metabolize than carbohydrates and fats. This gives that little extra boost to calorie loss.
So, now you know the secrets to getting ripped abs, the biggest hurdle is actually putting it into practice and I mean not just starting but continuing and persisting with it. It’s the regular small gains that make a difference. I have known people whom have put this advice into practice and have found themselves developing a set of abs in as little as eleven weeks. They didn’t have special physiques, body types or metabolism, just regular guys and ladies putting in regular work. So what are you waiting for!
