This is a question that many people ask themselves. However, for long term success and good health, the more important question is, “how can I lose weight healthfully?” There are a myriad of diet plans out there. But, the only way to achieve long term success and regain your health is to commit to certain lifestyle changes.

The fast way to lose weight is the unhealthy way. A highly restrictive plan that calls for drastic reduction in calories may grant you short term success, but once you resume your old habits, the weight will come back – and typically you gain more than you lost. This kind of yo-yo dieting is not only counterproductive, but also unhealthful and can lead to serious health complications.

Healthy and Natural Fat Burning Foods

February 26th, 2010 by DietGal | Comments Off | Filed in Food & Recipes

Vegetables that contain fewer calories than grains or meat are the best source for natural fat burning foods. In fact, often it is said that even to munch on celery uses up more calories than is being taken in. Whether or not that is true is still up for debate, but I can see how it might work so if you want to know how to burn off fat, looking out for those natural fat burners is one way to go.

Other fat burning foods are the leafy green vegetables such as lettuce, broccoli, spinach, and even green onions. Most of these foods are salad ingredients and add bulk to the diet rather than actual calories. However, you can sabotage their fat burning quality if you sprinkle on grated cheese, nuts and pieces of chopped chicken and, of course, calorie laden dressings. Also, keep in mind that you don’t want to be loading up on carbs. You don’t need to go on a no carb diet to lose weight, but low carb diets are usually a lot better at fat burning than their low fat counterparts.

Diets that Work – My Top Picks for Easy Diets that Work

February 23rd, 2010 by Inspector | Comments Off | Filed in Diet Tips & Reviews

When it comes to finding Diets that work, there are lots of options! The fact is, most reasonably constructed diet plans will work. So if you can avoid fad diets and focus on those weight loss programs that are designed for healthy weight loss, you’ll be well ahead of the game. But with so many diets available, how do you find the right diet that works for you? Some of it is trial and error, but I have a few ideas about what I look for in a diet and I know what diets I’ve been able to successfully lose weight with, so here are my thoughts on the matter.

First of all, I want a diet that does not require tons of cooking and fiddling around with ingredients. I’m not a chef and I don’t want to spend tons of time in the kitchen. I like easy diets and any diet that requires a lot of time in the kitchen, where the food prep takes longer than the eating, isn’t my idea of an easy diet plan!

I’m also not a huge fan of weighing and measuring every bite of food I put in my mouth and I hate having to look up and register all of the calories I eat every day. It’s time consuming, annoying and the majority of the time I’ll just forget to do it anyway, so what happens is I’ll spend the next day guessing on what I ate the day before and estimating the quantities. That’s the fast track to failure for me as I’ll just give up out of frustration.

Making the Change

Choosing to have a more healthy diet doesn’t have to be a painful experience. More and more fast food chains are adjusting their menus to include healthier options. To find out if the chains in your area offer healthy alternatives, check the nutritional information on their website. This allows you to still grab that quick meal on the go without having to sacrifice your nutritional needs.

Healthy Eating at Home

Preparing healthier meals for your family is no more complicated than making an unhealthy one. It’s simply a matter of educating yourself as to what is nutritious and what isn’t. We all learned the four food groups – let’s use them!
