Be Careful Of The Carbs – If you are in the habit of eating a lot of potatoes, bread and pasta then this is really killing your weight loss efforts.  When it comes to potatoes you should look to eat sweet potatoes instead because they have a lower Glycemic Index (GI).  Instead of bread you should eat rye crackers.   As for pasta then you should eat rice or quinoa instead.  These small but significant changes will really help you to slim down.

Every spring the swimsuit magazines hit the mailbox and we begin to think about how to lose weight for the coming summer.  Who doesn’t want to look better in a swimsuit?  Would you like a few secret weight loss tips?

There are many simple steps you can implement to get a buffer body for the summer.  You don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on dieting tips or fancy exercise programs.

You can start simple and just cut down the size of the portions you eat at every meal.   I am not insisting that you starve yourself.  That is a recipe for failure.  But look at the size of your dinner plate.  What if you ate half of the portion for dinner and kept the rest for lunch the next day.  The alternative is you could also consider ordering a half portion.  On my last visit to my favorite Italian restaurant they now offer half portions on the menu.  This is a great idea because so often we feel like we have to eat all that is served to us. Just because your mother always told you to finish all your food on your plate doesn’t mean you have to.

Protein is essential for our good health, as much so as fruit, vegetables, and a variety of whole grains. Never take protein out of your diet, your body needs proteins for good health. Beans and lentils are excellent sources of protein, if you do not eat meat.

How much protein should you eat?
You can measure your protein size quite easily, even when you are out. Visualize the proteins you eat as the size of a deck of cards. This should be about the three ounces per serving that you will want to eat at each meal. Protein will keep you feeling full, especially combined with a nice glass of water, and a cup or two of low carbohydrate vegetables.

The summer season is just around the corner and with the change of season you may have some anxiety about getting into your swimsuit, or even your shorts and tank tops. During the cool seasons it is easier to hide any extra pounds we may have put on during the year. But by making some changes in your diet and adding an elliptical workout you can start shedding some of those extra pounds and feel better about your summer wardrobe.

Pay attention to what you are eating, in fact many people have great results when they keep a journal of everything they eat. This way you can see what you are actually eating on a regular basis and start making changes. The vast majority of the food you eat should provide a nutritional benefit without providing too much in the way of things like fat and sodium, for instance a salad drenched in dressing isn’t nearly as healthy as a salad with dressing on the side allowing you to use just a small amount of it. Thankfully, as the weather gets warmer, we tend to eat lighter, so following a light summer diet isn’t too difficult at all.
